3/11            Work on your visual representation of your poem. See the link for detailed directions. Due Friday, March 15th.

Wednesday
3/12            Finish the final draft of your poetry essay. Use your writing notes and teacher comments and own ideas to revise carefully. Due to the basket on Thursday, March 14th.

Thursday           
3/13            Finish your visual representation and read in your IR book.

Friday
3/14            Read in your IR book. Due March 20.

3/4            Finish the first draft of your poetry essay. Due tomorrow.

3/5            Work on your visual representation. Due next week.

3/6            Write a second draft of your poetry essay. Due tomorrow.

Friday
3/7            Read in your IR book. Due March 20.
Study for the poetry exam. Make sure you know all the definitions of the poetry terms on the list and can identify them. The test will be on Tuesday, March 11.

Homework Assignments: Week 25

Monday
2/25            Print out and bring in a copy of the lyrics to a song that you think will be interesting (and appropriate) to discuss in class this week. Be prepared to discuss the meaning of the whole and individual lines in the song.

Tuesday
2/26            Read “American Hero” on page 573 of your Literature Anthology. Read it several times and think about its meaning so that you can write a one page think write on it in class tomorrow.

Wednesday
2/27            Read “Southbound on the Freeway” and write a one page think write on it.

Thursday           
2/28            Finish the prewriting for your poetry essay. Due Monday. Study for the poetry exam next week (Friday).

Friday
2/29            Read in your IR book. Due March 20.

2/20            Read the Eve Merriam poem and write a think write on it.

Thursday           
2/21            Complete a one page reflection on the meaning of Langston Hughes’ poem “A Dream Deferred.” Due Friday.

Friday
2/22            Read in your IR book. Due Thursday March 20. Begin thinking about and looking for a song that you like that has lyrics that you think would be interesting (and appropriate) to discuss in class. Due Tuesday.

2/12             Finish your bibliography. See the handout for details.

Wednesday
2/13            Decision Writing. Write about an important decision you’ve made in the past. Explain what the choices were, how you made the decision, what was your decision, and whether you still think it was a good one (or a bad one). Write about a page and a half.

Thursday           
2/14            Read in your IR book and enjoy the long weekend.

 

 

Wednesday Assignment:
1. In your think write section of your notebook, write a list of all the things you can think of that make poetry different from other types of literature (i.e. it rhymes sometimes, it's shorter usually, and so on).
2. Read the poem, "Mother to Son" several times. Carefully answer the questions on the back.
3. Meet with Ms. Taylor individually about your speech.
