2/4            Finish learning the words to your speech. Be prepared to deliver your entire speech to the class tomorrow.

2/5             Practice your speech. Read in your IR book.

Wednesday
2/6            Work on the delivery of your speech. Practice varying your intonation, pausing, gesturing, and adding emphasis when necessary. Say your speech in front of your family or the mirror. Work on the 4 Ps: Poise, Pausing, Power, and Passion. You will deliver your entire speech again tomorrow.

2/7            Practice delivering your speech and read in your IR book.

Friday
2/8            Keep practicing your speech and be ready to deliver it to the entire school on Monday morning. Invite your parents to come see you :)

1/28            Work on learning your speech. Be prepared to give the first two pages of your speech tomorrow (the first page and a half if your speech is under 4 pages).

1/29             Practice your speech. Read in your IR book.

Wednesday
1/30            Work on learning your speech. Work on your delivery. Practice varying your intonation, pausing, and adding emphasis when necessary. Say your speech in front of your family or the mirror.
We'll do another practice round on Thursday. If you haven't finished your bibliography yet, finish it tonight. Due tomorrow.

1/24            Practice delivering your speech. Learn the first half: be prepared to give the first three minutes (or the first page and half – two pages) on Tuesday. Practice varying your intonation, pausing, and adding emphasis when necessary.

1/25            Keep practicing your speech and read in your IR book. Make sure you know the first page and a half of your speech for Tueday.

1/15            Reflect on the statement “Good fences make good neighbors.” What does this mean literally and figuratively? Do you agree or not? Explain why. Write at least one page.

1/16            Review literary terms and study for finals.

1/8            Read the poem, “The Piano” and complete a think write on it – write at least one page. Work on your speech and IR if necessary.

1/9            Finish writing the first draft of your speech, due tomorrow.

12/17             Keep working on your speech. Make sure you have at least the first page and half written for credit in class tomorrow.

12/18             Work on your speech. First drafts are due no later than Friday.

12/19            Finish writing your speech if you have not done so already.

12/20             Read in your IR book and enjoy the holidays. All IR book tests must be taken the first week we return from vacation, so finish reading over vacation.

 

Old Assignments

1/5 Read Larry Rottman’s poem “APO 96225” several times and think about its meaning. Write about one discussing the meaning of the poem. What does the poem express about the realities of war? Be sure to quote and discuss specific lines from the poem. Don’t forget to schedule your IR test as soon as possible.

12/15 Reflect on the saying, “Good fences make good neighbors.” Write about one page discussing how this statement applies to your own experience, literature, movies, etc.

2/26 Finish poetry terms poster: due Tuesday 2/26. See link for details.

 

Thursday
2/1 Continue practicing the delivery of your speech. Make sure that you not only know the whole speech, but that you have practiced pausing, emphasis, varying your intonation, and gesturing. Graded practice delivery of the entire speech in front of the class on Monday.

Friday 2/1 Assignment

1. Practice your speech and recite it a few times.

3. The form is 5, 7, 5 (syllables), but when translated from the Japanese, the form is modified. The idea is to capture a small moment or revelation in just three short lines.
4. Write 4 or 5 of your own on nature, school, homework, Monopoly, etc.

Wednesday 1/20 Assignment

1. Re-read "Mending Wall" If you don't have your copy of the poem with you, please go to the link aboe and print it out.
2. Read through the questions and begin writing down your answers. You may discuss your ideas with others in the class. But please write down your answers on separate papers. Call me if you need help. 647-6203
4. If you finish early, finish your bibliography in class, otherwise do it for homework (in addition to working on learning your speech).
